Welcome to Kindergarten
About Mrs. Graham:
I have taught school for almost 26 years and love to teach Kindergarten. I went to school as a child at Mill Creek Elementary and my favorite place was the library. There I discovered my love of reading. Kindergarten is my favorite grade to teach because they are curious, energetic, and love to learn. I hope your child has a positive and wonderful experience this year.
Our Schedule: All Day Kindergarten
Monday-Thursday ( 8:40 am -3:20 pm)
Fridays ( 8:40 am -1:15 pm)
Visiting School and Volunteers -
I encourage parents to take an active role in your child's education. If you can volunteer at school, please let me know the day and time you can come. I will check our class schedule and inform you of the time to help out. I have volunteers for about forty-five minutes to an hour once a week or twice a month. Volunteers and visitors must get a pass from the office upon arrival at school. If you need to check your child out of school, it must be done through the office. I also, need help with school parties and field trip supervision.
Sending money to school-
Please make sure any money for PTA events or field trip donations are put in an envelope and put your child's name on the front. Include the teacher name and room number.
Classroom Donations - If you would like to donate items for our classroom, that would be so helpful. We could use Clorox wipes, glue sticks, Kleenex and snack crackers.
Birthdays -
You may send a treat for your child's birthday. It is not expected and all treats must be store bought. Please no cupcakes, they are difficult to eat and pass out during the day. Great treats to donate for birthdays are cookies, fruit snacks, or granola bars
Curriculum:
Language Arts - We have a new Reading Program called Wonders. In Kindergarten we will learn to find the key to unlock the skills to learn to read. We will learn our letter names, sounds, sight words, and how to blend sounds together to make words. We will work in large and small groups so everyone can learn and grow this year. Our pre-decodable and decodable books will reinforce the sight words we are learning in class.
Go Math - Our math program is called Go Math. We will learn to write our numbers to 20, count to 100, and add and subtract. Also, use five and ten frames to represent and count and we will learn our basic shapes. We use manipulates so students can have hands on experiences to figure out problems .
I use a wonderful program also called Every Day Math Counts. We will learn all about the calendar, our days of the week and a count down to the one-hundredth day of school.
Homework- We send monthly homework and weekly math homework to reinforce the skills we have taught in class. Also, pre-decodable and decodable books will be sent home to read with an adult.
Star Student- Each student will have a special week to be the Star Student. I will let parent know by note of the week your child will be the star of the week. Your child will bring home a poster to color and fill out their favorite things. A parent or family member is welcome to come and read a story to the class.
Extra Curriculum - We will be going to P.E ( physical education) each week and learn some fun games. Also, we have art and library during the week. Your student will work in the computer lab and learn how to use the computer and work on reading and math skills.
SEP Conferences - I will meet twice a year with parents and students to make educational goals. It is very important that you come to the conferences . I want each child to have success in Kindergarten. We will work as a team to help your child all through the year.
Websites - Some great websites to work on math and reading skills are Starfall.com and ABC ya. com
I am very excited to be your child's teacher .
If you have any questions or concerns during the year you can contact me by email or call the office to set up an appointment.
Thank you so much, Mrs. Graham [email protected]
